Professor Dent joined the School of Mathematics in autumn 2016, and was promoted to Professor of Industrial Mathematics in 2020. Within the School he directs the Statistical Consultancy Unit.

Miguel de Carvalho, Director of the Centre for Statistics says:

We are delighted for Chris for this well-deserved distinction! This appointment really highlights the breadth of the Centre's activity and how we regard Statistics as a discipline grown in collaboration with scientists from, inter alia, STEM, social sciences, and humanities. The Centre is proud on having Chris serving as a Co-Director for Consultancy, and congratulates him for his  influential contributions in Engineering and Tech—many of which use statistical models so to learn from data.
